Life in the city is a hustle and bustle of an ever-changing scenery and population. The landscapes and the people in my environment are what inspire me most. At my day job I get to meet people of all shapes and sizes, from all walks of life, and I try to incorporate some of their physical forms into my work. As a clay artist, I try to show people there is more to ceramics than just functional pots. I love building sculptures out of clay that are larger than the norm. However, when I do create functional pottery, I focus on form. I like clean/utilitarian forms, which I decorate differently depending on where the mood takes me. Although most of my work is made with clay, I also enjoy working with plaster, ink wash and oil pastels. The same themes of human form and nature resonate in all of the mediums I work in.

Biography
Jasmine Fountain was raised in Norfolk, VA. From an early age, she participated in any art program or class she could. Jasmine attended Granby High School where she was able to spend two years studying ceramics and pottery as well as photography. She graduated from Granby in 2003 and went on to Tidewater Community College that Fall to study studio arts. However, in the summer of 2004 Jasmine transferred to Kee Business College to study massage therapy. Jasmine graduated from Kee in 2005 at the top of her class. She planned to work as a massage therapist as a means to pay for college and later her art. Jasmine jumped right back into studying art at TCC while still working full-time as a massage therapist. While at TCC, Jasmine was able to travel to Rome to study Art History, which was a very inspiring experience for her. Jasmine graduated with honors from TCC with an Associates of Applied Arts in Studio Arts specializing in Crafts. She plans to attend Old Dominion University in the Fall of 2010 to study Art Education. Jasmine also loves to travel and experience new things that help inspire her artwork; she has been to most of the states on the east coast from New York to Florida as well as Illinois, Michigan, and California.
