Patricia Isenhour
Studio 1
Painting

Through exploration and discovery I find painting completely engages me, providing immense personal satisfaction. Intuitively, I re-create my impressions and experiences in the world.  Just like your world, mine consists of many environments.  Having a studio on the grounds at the Hermitage Museum gives me a unique opportunity by providing a glimpse of life on the Lafayette River.  This studio is my creative haven.  Through observation, I have learned this location is an extraordinary sanctuary for numerous birds, and bird imagery has migrated into my paintings. Each day as the tide ebbs and flows into the marsh, bird activity explodes. These winged creatures are very social and interactive, just like humans.  In my paintings bird silhouettes have become metaphors for human relationships, particularly the act of communication, interaction and response.  It is through dialog that we begin, build and continue relationships, with birds it is a call and response.  Red brings excitement and energy, red is hopeful and radiates beyond the boundaries of the surface.  True art has the power to expand beyond the canvas; the capacity to comfort and excite us, and touch us in a unique, personal way.  I hope that my paintings speak to you.
