Sailors’ Dreams features fantastical paintings described by the artist as “a celebration and a festival of color and texture”. Throughout his career, Romero’s work has incorporated nature. This exhibition displays a new series of paintings inspired by marine life in Norfolk and will be a tribute to the sailors. Romero, renowned Colombian oil painter, will show for the first time in the United States.

With his whimsical style full of poetry, Romero plunges into a journey through the depths and mysteries of silence in an aquatic world, inhabited by fanciful creatures. His version of different fish, forms, shape, and movement under the water delight the eye. The exhibition is a universal call to care for this fragile world and save it for future generations.
This exhibition will be interactive with programming such as painting workshops with the artist, educational activities lead by staff from the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, and a lecture by Andean Art Scholar of George Mason University, Michelle Greet.
