Position: Public Programs Coordinator
Department: Public Programs
Position Supervisor: Public Programs Manager

The Public Programs Department of the Hermitage Museum & Gardens seeks an individual to work part-time (20 hours per week including Saturdays).  This staff person will work closely with the Public Programs Manager to give general support to the Visual Arts School, summer camp program, exhibitions and school tours. Duties will include monitoring of classroom facilities and ordering class supplies, preparations for the Summer Camp program, assistance with the School Tours Program, and general exhibition preparation for six exhibitions a year.

This position requires a person who enjoys working with people including children. The Public Programs Coordinator is a “can-do” individual.  Computer skills, strong writing abilities and using simple hand tools are essential skills to conduct the duties of this position.

Position: Visitor Services Coordinator

Position Supervisor: Tours and Events Manager

The Hermitage Museum & Gardens seeks a personality plus individual with a great sense of humor and well defined organizational skills to serve as the museum’s Visitor Services Coordinator. The majority of the museum’s audience visits on the weekends, therefore this is a three day a week (20 hours a week) position working Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays.  This staff position is responsible for front desk duties to include greeting visitors and vendors, as well as program registration, giving the occasional tour, processing membership information, working with volunteers and stocking and inventorying the museum’s gift shop.  The museum hosts approximately 30 weddings each year and the Visitors Services Coordinator will work in conjunction with the Tours & Events Manager to work with clients on “day of” event related issues. For someone who enjoys working with the public this is a fun and fast paced job you will enjoy. The ability to use a computer is essential to conduct the duties of this position.

Position: Administrative Assistant
Department: Administration and Development
Position Supervisor: Manager of Administration and Development

The Hermitage Museum & Gardens seeks an individual to work part-time (20 hours a week) in the office of Administration and Development to conduct light book keeping duties to include payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable as well as process on-line donations, memberships, and class registration. Excellent computer skills are required for this position, including expertise in email, calendaring, word processing (preferably MS Word), and spreadsheet (preferably MS Excel) software and in high-level accounting applications (Peachtree and Quickbooks).

Position: Art Instructors

Position Supervisor: Public Programs Manager

The Hermitage Foundation Museum Visual Arts School (VAS) is inviting community artists to submit proposals to teach workshops and 9-week class sessions on a variety of art subjects at the VAS located next to the Hermitage Foundation Museum at 7701 North Shore Road in Norfolk, Virginia. The VAS will accept and consider proposals for classes and/or workshops geared toward adults and children. Artists are not limited in their proposals; the VAS is equipped with a full darkroom, multi-media room, and ceramics studio with seven Brent pottery wheels.

All submissions should include the following information:
• applicant’s name, address, and telephone number (e-mail address if available)
• title and description of the workshop, class, or camp
• supply list and approximate cost of supplies
• resume including previous teaching experience

There are many opportunities to make a difference! You can donate your time and talents to the Hermitage in many different ways. How do I become a docent?

Anyone can become a docent. There are no educational prerequisites, just an interest in and passion for the arts and a desire to share these with the public. Community members wishing to become docents must complete the Core’s Docent Training Program.

The Hermitage Foundation Museum Internship is an unpaid, volunteer position. Students are responsible for contacting their respective school for all academic and funding requirements. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age, having completed two years of high school to apply, although internships are generally awarded to college and graduate students.
