Weekly Themes Week 1, July 6 - July 10: Across Asia Visit the Far East through the Asian art collection housed at the Hermitage. Make origami and participate in activities such as bamboo painting and gyutako (block printing). See the Samurai sword and ancient “spirit objects” from the tombs of royalty! Design and make your own Zhenmushou (guardian beast) out of clay. You’ll travel very far from home Across Asia! Week 2, July 13 - July 17: Art and Nature Take a walk with us through the garden gate and explore a world where art and nature commune. Learn about the Hermitage gardens and take a nature walk in the restored wetlands. Campers will explore the grounds and paint landscapes, real and imaginary! Come have fun in the sun and shade during Art and Nature week! Week 3, July 20 – July 24: World Travel Join us as we circle the globe! See the sites of far away countries through the window of the Sloane family collection. Each day, campers will experience a new country and its culture through objects housed at the Hermitage. Visit Spain, India, Russia, England and Japan all in one week!! Pack your bags for great adventures and embark on World Travel! Week 4, July 27 - July 31: Home Welcome home! Learn about the different meanings of home found at the Hermitage. Explore the architecture and secret panels and passageways of the Hermitage through guided museum tours. Listen to the pipe organ’s beautiful songs. Learn about the Hermitage as a home to the arts, gardens, wetlands and animal life. Come inside and consider yourself Home! Week 5, August 3 - August 7: Life in Art Discover the inspiration behind works in the Sloane collection and learn about the process of translating life into art. What stories does art tell? Who creates art and why? How can we see art in everyday life? Learn how artists find inspiration. Campers will hear the stories behind the objects in the Sloane collection and participate in activities that will inspire art of their own. Celebrate the magic of artistic inspiration and discover the Life in Art! Week 6, August 10 - August 14: Glass Art Experience all the wonders of glass with various activities meant to inspire. Learn about the various art forms and creative processes from area artists, experts, and demonstrations. How can recycled bottles become a work of art? Campers will learn how as they experience the Hermitage exhibition GlassFX and become motivated to create in Glass Art! Week 7, August 17 - August 21: Across Asia Visit the Far East through the Asian art collection housed at the Hermitage.
