Lynn Allred studied photography at Old Dominion University and, as a prize winning artist, has shown regionally and has published nationally. He was nominated for the LEICA medal of Excellence in Photography.  Lynn has taught beginner through advanced photography at the Visual Arts School for several years and works with a core of returning students.

Carey Blindenhofer has lived in Norfolk, VA for almost 20 years. Since childhood, he has possessed a deep passion for illustrating fantastic images with pen and ink.  A self-taught artist, Carey has worked as a successful freelance illustrator for over 15 years and continues to pursue his life dream of becoming a professional comic illustrator. His love of this most engaging and diverse art form lead him to share his wealth of knowledge with others so that they may find their own voice and accelerate their abilities by avoiding some of the common mistakes made by most aspiring cartoonists.

Angela Bounds was heavily influenced by her early years spent in Idaho, giving her a great appreciation and love for nature’s landscapes.  She made the leap to painting after spending a summer afternoon painting with a friend and has painted plein air in many locations throughout the country.  Angela excels in her ability to paint all subject matter; landscape, still life and figurative works.

Sandra Burton graduated from Radford University with honors in 2004, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting with a minor in Psychology.  She received her teaching license through O.D.U.'s licensure only program and has been with Norfolk Public Schools since 2008.In her free time, she enjoys painting with watercolors and experimenting with mixed media.

Linda Carey received her BFA and MFA from the University of Arizona in Tucson. Linda works primarily with chalk pastel, which she builds with multiple layers of colors and marks; sometimes dense and opaque, sometimes ghostly and translucent. Primarily a landscape and cityscape painter who is known for her luminous images of Italy and Virginia, Carey also explores still-life and figurative motifs. Her works have been shown nationally in gallery, juried and invitational exhibitions and are in numerous private collections. Her most recent exhibitions in 2008-09 were solo shows at the Charles Taylor Art Center in Hampton VA, The Beverly Street Studio School in Staunton VA, and the Keny Galleries in Columbus Ohio.

Jim Chalkley holds a Master of Fine Arts from New York State College of Ceramics, in Alfred, New York.  He has taught ceramics on the university level for almost thirty years and has an in-depth knowledge of all ceramic processes.  His award-winning work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, publications, and public and private collections.

Karen Dougherty has been training and engaging in exercise for 22 years and “cannot express enough the positive benefits it has added to her own life.” She is certified with the American Council of Exercise, in the Pilates Method through the Physical Mind Institute.  She is currently certified to teach Yoga and has completed a 200 hour intensive Certification with the Yoga Center of Minneapolis. She firmly believes that exercise should be a part of everyday life and become a habit for everyone.

Donna Iona Drozda is a painter and an arts educator who is very active in the Hampton Roads Arts Community.  She describes her philosophy of Art as Action when she writes, “My mission as a visual artist is to share the awareness that we feel better when we express feelings on paper, canvas or even by drawing in the sand at low tide! I take great delight in living simply and close to nature. I love to share a disciplined focus and a clear intent. My artist in the community goal is to assist others in diving deeply into physical, emotional and spiritual zones where true creative joy resides.”

Vic Frailing received his Master of Interdisciplinary Studies in Studio Art from Virginia Commonwealth University. Vic  is the Visual Arts Department Chair for the Governor’s School for the Arts.  He has been a teacher of art and photography for over 20 years. The moment becomes light. In describing his fascination with photography he writes “That moment, those frozen rays of light are fixed in either crystals of silver salt or rendered as ones and zeros in a grand plan of mathematical code. I really don't think it matters which method is used. They each have their voice.”

Betty Ann Galway  is the Lifelong Learning Program Manager & Floral Designer at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.  Betty Ann has been involved with floral arrangement for years and has taught floral arrangement workshops and classes all over Hampton Roads.

Sandy Knowles is a librarian by trade and works for the Norfolk Public Library.  She began pursuing her interest in pottery approximately 8 years ago and spent 6 years working in the Odyssey studios associated with Highwater Clays in Asheville, NC.  She has learned from some well known ceramics artists such as Malcolm Davis, Susan Filley, and Matt Jones.  She spent 2 years working as a studio assistant at Odyssey, running the open studio on Sundays.  She works both on the wheel and does handbuilding with slabs.

Janice Gay Maker was born and educated in Boston and received her BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art. Janice is known for her brilliant use of color. Working in both oil paint and oil pastel, she creates lively, passionate vistas from observation in the natural landscape. Janice is often outside, at work - composing plein air paintings. . . but can also be found in her working studio-gallery at the d'Art Center in downtown Norfolk, Virginia.
