Tours of the House (special tours listed below)
Guided tours of the Museum
and Sloane Collection are conducted daily by our knowledgable docent staff.
Tours last approximately 45 minutes and include fifteen galleries filled
with the Sloane family art collection, furniture and history.
Tours begin promptly on the hour with the last tour beginning
at 4:00pm.
Closed Wednesdays.
Group Tours of 8 or more people are by reservation only:

Guests are requested to remove rain coats,
overcoats and backpacks and leave them in our cloakroom. No photographs

The Hermitage Gardens and Grounds are a wonderful place to have your wedding, graduation and family photographs taken. In order to accommodate everyone and provide the best experience possible, all professional photography sessions require a reservation and must be scheduled through Tours & Events Manager at 757.423.2052 x 300. Photography sessions on the grounds are permitted Thursday through Monday from 9am-5pm only. Sessions are not permitted after-hours or on Tuesday or Wednesday. SPECIAL TOURS
Curator's "White Glove Tours"
Special guided tours by the
Curator of the Collection are
offered on Mondays at 1:00 PM and will last approximately 60 minutes. This is a special chance to see
rooms and artifacts that are not usually viewed by the public. Tours will
be thematic and move throughout the permanant and changing collection.
Some topics to be discussed are: Charles Woodsend, his drawings and tools;
Florence K. Sloane, her contribution to the Hermitage and Norfolk; Douglas
Volk, the stories behind the paintings.

Garden Tours
During the months of July and August, join Curator of Gardens, Yolima Carr, for a History of the Gardens tour. Tours are offered each Monday at 9:00 am and the first Saturday of each month at 9:00 am*. Please wear walking shoes and come prepared to spend about an hour walking 12 acres of beautiful waterfront gardens. Learn about
your favorite flowers, formal gardens, find out more about the Wetlands Restoration, listen
to stories and see images of how the gardens looked during the Sloanes' era. * Weather permitting
